On the road again! (25th August to 12th September)

On the road again! (25th August to 12th September)
YES!! We are still alive, and still/ again travelling to South America!
 What has happened?

On the 25th of June we left Vegas on our way to Europe for the summer. Steffi headed to Monterrey to see some friends and Robert to VA party a bit with Mac and Martin. We had lot of fun and the days passed too fast. We recognized as well that it was the first time we would separate since Steffi came in October 2014 to Virginia….

On the 29th June we met at Detroit airport to fly together to Germany and surprisingly all flights were on time and luggage made it as well. In Frankfurt Monika was going to pick us up from the airport and we spent the day with her. When she picked us up, I saw a known face, which I couldn’t believe who I saw! Elha came all the way from Stuttgart just to meet with us and spend the day with us. That was such a nice surprise!!! Thanks again!!

In the evening we took a train to Ulm where Gunter picked us up and we went together to a Biergarten before we made it to Steffi’s parent’s home. We enjoyed some really nice hot summer days in South Germany visiting friends and family from Steffi. On Steffi’s birthday we did our traditional hut to hut hike… but due to the hot weather we took it easy and only spent 2 nights in a nice Hut in the Bregenzer Wald and took day hike around…. We were the only guests as people would rather stay in the water down at the Lake of Constance.

Afterwards we spent a week in Hochdorf with Steffi’s parents. The weather was hot so we took the bikes and went swimming in the local lakes. Afterwards we went with Gunter to the Czech Republic where we spent 3 days in the mountains and 2 days in Praque. The prices are still very reasonable and the beer is very good. We spent time with Robert’s parents enjoying a relaxed time hiking, biking, eating and drinking. We also met Katharina and Christian in Prague for 2 days. Time went by quick. Beginning of August we went with Robert’s parents to Bad Schallerbach in Austria for 5 days to help them with some things on the house. We had a great time. After that we took a bus and the train to go to Berlin where Steffi’s sister Gabi lives. It was very hot which made the exploration of the city quite a challenge. Berlin is a beautiful city with very diverse people. We only met the friendly ones J After 4 days it was time to say good bye to Europe and return to the USA.

Instead of traveling directly to Las Vegas to pick up our rig we had to stop over in Virginia for 2 weeks because of a problem with Robert’s renter which required our attention. At least we got to see our friends again and could enjoy some days on the beach :)

On August 25th we finally arrived back in Las Vegas where we picked up our rig and went to the place where we should get our new grill guard and winch installed. Of course they still didn’t have it which pissed us off so we had to kill another 2 weeks to get the parts. We decided it was best to get out of the heat.

On August 27th we took off to go back to Zion in Utah to cool off. We spent one night on BLM land about 20 miles outside of Zion so we can rush in early to get a camp spot. Well we didn’t have to do that because it was way not as crowded as in June when we were the last time here. The following 4 days we relaxed and hiked to Angels Landing (again) and observation point which was even nicer but also difficult to get up there. We also took the bikes with us on the bus all the way up to the end of the park and rode them downhill which was a lot of fun. The night temperatures were acceptable and there was a nice river to cool off.

On September 1st we decided to Pahrump which is just 70 mile west of Las Vegas and close to Death Valley ( no we did not go there for obvious reasons ) where we spend 3 nights in a ***** camp ground for 20 Bucks a night ( thanks to passport America ) … even better they sold Blue Moon beer for 3$ ( tall glass ). A good life it was :)

On September 4th we went back to Vegas and finally got our grill guard and the winch installed. It took the whole day so we decided to take the bus and go shopping. We didn’t buy a lot of things but we definitely know how to get around in Vegas with a bus now ? We also got a new bike rack for the front of the truck but had to return it because it was just in our way. I thought that it would make life easier to get the bikes stored but oh well…..

The next 2 days we were busy organizing stuff and I should mention that it was about 105 degrees all the time. We would have not survived without our air conditioner in the Camper.
On September 7th we were finally off to Lake Havasu where we hoped to cool down a bit. We stayed on BLM land that night but it was still hot and sleeping was difficult if we didn’t want to run the generator all night long to keep the air conditioner running. In the winter time that place is very popular for snow birds ( retired people that live in the south for the winter ).

On September 8th we arrived at Crazy Horse Camp ground after breakfast and a shopping stop to meet our friends Petty and Wayne. They were accompanied by Wayne’s daughter Jess. We saw them the last time in April at their House in Frazer Park California and we had great time together. Instead of 2 days we spend 4 days there and went twice with them out on a boat which was a lot of fun. The water was perfect to cool off and the cold drinks did the rest J Thank you, it was awesome ….

On September 12th it was time to say good bye but we will meet again. We drove to Blythe CA to stay the night at the Hidden beach resort next to the Colorado River or what is left of it down here. The place was a little old but it was fine for the night.

On September 13th we packed up and drove down to Yuma AZ which is only 20 miles from the Mexican border. It is time to get the Truck ready, meaning getting spare parts, get the brakes checked and the alignment fixed. We also need insurance for the rig when driving in Mexico. We will stay here for 3 days before continuing to the west where we will cross the border.
